New Modular Relay Rack
Improves On-board Switching Performance
Serralbe, France -- A new flexible switching unit, featuring hermetically sealed relays to better meet the rigorous demands of on-board switching, has been introduced by Leach International.
Housed in standard 19-inch 6U or 3U racks, the relay components are hermetically sealed in nitrogen-gas-filled metal cans to help guard against contamination caused by dust and iron filings from brakes and tracks. This contamination is one is one of the principle causes of relay failure in railroad applications.
Each rack is composed of nine individual relay cassettes that can be preselected from a number of standard configurations. Each standard offers a different switching configuration, such as double-throw contacts, double-break contacts or a mixture of the two, depending on the types of loads. In addition, because each relay contact is tracked out to two individual connector pins, it is possible to wire relays from one cassette to those situated elsewhere on the train. This flexibility allows relays to be acquired prior to finalization of an electrical schematic.
The cassettes offer additional features such as front panel LED indication on each relay, polarizing keys to avoid the cassettes being inserted incorrectly, and an optional front-mounted test connector for onsite diagnostic testing.
Leach International, a leading supplier of electrical switching components since 1919, provides relays and contactors to many of the world's finest rail transportation systems for critical, fail-safe applications. Leach products are used on: TGV-France; Metro Paris, Athens, Caracas, Mexico City, Kuala Lumpur; Underground London; BART San Francisco; MTR Hong Kong; AVE Spain; Eurostar; R142 New York City, and many others.
