Leach International to Manufacture Platform Detection Panel for ALSTOM
Buena Park, Calif. -- Alstom Transportation, NY, contracted by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), has selected Leach International, North America, to design and produce a platform detection-switching module for use on several hundred up-graded metro railcars.
Mounted to the under-side of the subway car, the unit reacts to signals from an infrared sensor indicating the safe presence of a station platform, and applies power to the door control circuits allowing doors to safely open only on the platform side of the car. The unit features all hermetically sealed, high shock (100g) and vibration (20g) resistant subminiature relays to ensure high reliability, long life, and maintenance free operations. All the relays are mounted in a special single, low profile socket on a motherboard to reduce board space and cost, and can be mounted in any axis.
"The ECU-102 project is an excellent example of Leach International's 'build to customer specification' and value-added expertise", says Mark Thek, president, Leach International. "It represents a unique combination of our advanced packaging capabilities and range of electrical load switching and control application solutions".
Leach International, founded in 1919, manufactures high reliability power switching components and equipment for worldwide aerospace and rail industries.
